We are delighted that our Director, Andrew, has been shortlisted as a candidate to receive “The Community Leader Award”. The award is part of the Research and Youth Leadership Awards 2014, organised by the “Independent Academic Research Studies” organisation (IARS) and the youth-led 99% Campaign. Andrew has been shortlisted for the award for his efforts to tackle youth unemployment.
The description of the Community Leader Award is as follows: “For the young person aged 16-25 who has shown true leadership by helping and inspiring others to contribute to their community and deliver IARS’ vision for a society in which everyone is given a chance to actively participate in social problem solving. The successful candidate should fulfil the following criteria:
- The young person has demonstrated that they have led others to participate in social problem solving;
- The young person provides examples of how others have been encouraged to contribute to their communities as a result of their activities.
- The young person shows determination in leading others in their community to tackle a specific social issue.”
The prize is to be awarded by Southwark Council, with other honoured guests attending such as the local Liberal Democrat MP and government minister Simon Hughes MP.
The awards ceremony is on the afternoon of Wednesday 20 August 2014, at the Canada Water Culture Space, 21 Surrey Quays Road, London. More details on the ceremony and ticket sign-up can be found here.
